Fault Finding Course

The Fault Finding & Multimeters Course is designed for installers who want to improve fault finding servicing and repairs for their customers, or maybe change from installing and move into a servicing career. It also caters for new students coming into the heating industry, who have little or no knowledge of Combi boilers.

The day is jam-packed with practical tips, advice and hands-on learning, here are some of the things you will learn about:

 

There are several types of multimeters, you’ll learn the difference between them and find out which is the most suitable for fault finding on boilers.

You will also be shown the four multimeter settings needed to repair boilers and practise using them throughout the day. You’ll gain confidence in your own skills so you will better prepared for fault finding.

It’s easy to overlook these tests but they should be carried out every time you approach a boiler or after an installation.

If you carry out the tests fully you will be confident that the appliance is safe for you to work on.

Also, electrical faults can often be identified during this stage, saving you time later on.

The tests are:

  • Earth continuity test
  • Short circuit test
  • Resistance to earth test
  • Polarity test
Do you know how to confirm a pump is faulty before you replace it?

You’ll learn two ways to test pumps effectively so that you can be sure it’s faulty before fitting a new one.

Do you know what those number on the side mean? Not all pumps are the same and you will learn why.

Learn how to test different types of switches with ease, such as water pressure and flow switches, using your own multimeter .

We have boxes of different switches for you to try, including many that are faulty.

Test your new found knowledge, at your own pace, to be confident that you get the most out of the day.

Learn how to test both single and two-speed fans with your multimeter. We have plenty of them for you to try out.

We will also teach you how to look for signs that a fan needs to be replaced.

Do you blow into a fan switch? This is wrong, you should never do this!

Learn how to test fan switches the correct way so you can be sure it’s actually faulty before you replace it.

You will learn the difference between the two and learn how to test them both.

We have a selection of sensors and stats from different manufacturers for you to test.

You will learn the most common faults with diverter valves and how to deal with the different symptoms.

Diverter valve faults can be difficult to diagnose but we will show you a simple method.

Learn more about heat exchangers and the most common faults associated with them.

Learn about:

  • Back flow
  • Over heating
  • Scale
  • Flow rate
We will give you a better understanding of expansion vessels:

  • Common symptoms
  • Re-pressurising
  • Fitting an external vessel

 

Does the pressure gauge rise to 2.5 bar and water drip from the PRV?

We will show you how to solve this problem.
